No new contracts for Syrian and Iraqi armed forces
The official representatives of Syrian and Iraqi governments are interested in deliveries of Russian-made weapons, however, there are no new contracts signed yet. This is the statement of Mr. Andrey Fomin, the head of Federal service for military and technical cooperation. „These countries are in need of consumables, such as ammunition; and from the category of weapon systems - lightly-armored vehicles, armored vehicles and anti-tank weapons. On the other hand, it is understandable, that these countries have certain difficulties with financing. Of course, there is necessity for deliveries of above-mentioned goods. However, there are no new contracts“, Mr. Fomin said.
According to his statement, Syria and Iraq are engaged in „serious and intensive operations, aimed at destruction of the terrorist organizations“. “There are also evident successes, which Syrian and Iraqi army have achieved”, he said.
He has also stated, that Libya has also “requested some proposals”. “Unfortunately, there is no government in Libya. There are two governments, parliaments. Moreover, Libya is under sanctions of the security council of UN. Any possible deliveries are subject to permission of UN. There are requests, but the sanctions are in force” said Fomin.
