The „RT-Khimkompozit“ (part of „ROSTECH“), has mastered serial production of products from silicone glass, designed for the replacement of the organic glass on the whole fleet of the MiG-31 interceptors. Currently, the holding is providing components to all the companies, involved in modernization of the MiG-31 jets. „The established enterprise of constructional optics, founded upon merging two companies - ONPP „TECHNOLOGIYA“ and AO „NITS“ is already showing the results. Currently, we cover need of all enterprises, which are involved in the overhaul and modernisation of the MiG-31 interceptor fleet and we supply contracted production according to 9 contracts concurrently“, general director of the „RT Khimkompozit“, Kirill Shubskiy, noted.

The necessity of the elaboration of new silicone glass for MiG-31, instead of organic glass, was due to effect, called „silvering“. This effect decreases the transparency and optical features of the organic glass, thus limiting use of the plane in all weather conditions.

Due to above mentioned, company „RT-Khimkompozit“ was ordered to execute research and trial of the new silicone products, for the canopy of MiG-31, which was finished in 2014. In the same year, the serial production of silicone products, in the facilities of the AO „ONPP TECHNOLOGIYA“  has started. In the 2016, the volume of serial deliveries to the aviation companies have grown twofold, thus enabling AO NITS to fulfill the governmental order for fiscal year 2016 for replacement of MiG-31 canopies.
